Birmingham's drinkers have four new reasons to plan a pub crawl this autumn.

The CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2027 has been published, and a small but varied group of Birmingham venues has made the cut for the first time.

The guide is independent, and every pub is chosen and checked by volunteer members of the Campaign for Real Ale rather than paying for a place.

How many West Midlands pubs are in the Good Beer Guide 2027?

There are 118 pubs listed across the West Midlands, 14 of them new entries.

Many of the newcomers are in the Black Country rather than Birmingham itself, but the city still gains four new places, three of them in or near the city centre.

1. The Anchor, Digbeth

Trading since 1793, The Anchor on Bradford Street is about as traditional as a Birmingham pub gets.

Think wooden floors, stained glass windows, leather bench seats and gleaming brass hand pumps.

It is known for well-kept cask ales, independent local beers and a proper pint of stout, with honest pub food on the side.

2. The Indian Brewery Company, Jewellery Quarter

This independent brewer on Mary Ann Street pairs its own beers with Indian-inspired food, including Indian-style pizzas.

Signature brews include Juicy Mango golden beer, Pekok Indian lager and Bombay Honey, made with natural honey.

It opens Tuesday to Sunday and has a large screen for live sport.

3. Society, Colmore Square

Society is proof that a great beer list does not need an old-fashioned setting.

The 9,000 square foot food hall at One Colmore Square houses five independent kitchens, a cocktail bar and an outdoor terrace.

Its broad craft beer range is what caught the attention of local real ale campaigners.

4. Andy's Brew House, Streetly

On Boundary Road, on the Streetly edge of Sutton Coldfield, this small micropub rotates up to four ales at a time.

Real ciders, craft kegs and classic bar snacks such as cobs, pork pies and Scotch eggs complete the offer.

Regular happy hours and cheese nights help explain its reputation as a home from home.

Why the Good Beer Guide matters

For independent pubs, a listing can bring a noticeable boost in visitors, particularly from beer tourists who use the guide to plan trips.

At a time when many pubs are under financial pressure, that recognition can make a real difference.

For Birmingham, the mix of a Georgian-era Digbeth local, a modern food hall, an independent brewery taproom and a suburban micropub shows how varied the city's drinking scene has become.
